Paybyrd — Brand identity

PAYBYRD

Paybyrd is a payment platform built for Europe's most ambitious merchants. The brief was to move beyond the cold utility of fintech and build a brand with genuine character — one that signals performance without losing warmth. From strategy to naming architecture to visual identity and a full website build, the work had to hold up across every touchpoint from homepage to checkout screen.

Paybyrd had a strong product and a growing merchant base, but the brand hadn't kept pace. The name had energy but the identity was generic fintech — indistinguishable from a dozen competitors. As they prepared to scale across Europe, the absence of a real brand was becoming a commercial liability. We were brought in to build it from the ground up.

We started with brand strategy: positioning, voice, and a clear articulation of what made Paybyrd different. The answer wasn't in the technology — it was in the relationship. Paybyrd worked closer to the merchant than any of its enterprise competitors. That became the brand's foundation: performance you can feel.

The visual system was designed to carry the brand across every scale — from mobile app icon to trade-stand. A custom logotype with deliberate tension between precision and momentum. A palette that stepped away from the category default. A flexible component library built for the product team to take forward.

The website was designed and built in parallel with the identity — a deliberate choice to avoid the translation problems that come when developers receive a finished design. Every interaction, every transition, every typographic choice was made with performance and clarity as the measure.

The rebrand positioned Paybyrd as the premium partner for Europe's most ambitious merchants — a brand with the presence to open doors and the substance to earn trust. The work launched across all touchpoints simultaneously in Q3 2023, establishing a visual language robust enough to carry the next phase of growth.
